The Cavs got pushed to the brink of elimination with two top players in street clothes on the bench, as Donovan Mitchell (calf) and Jarrett Allen (ribs) sat out with injuries.

DALLAS (AP) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 points and the Oklahoma City Thunder overcame a Dallas franchise playoff-record 13 blocks, rallying for a 100-96 victory Monday night to even their Western Conference semifinal series at 2-2.

Chet Holmgren and Lu Dort hit clutch 3-pointers late, and Jalen Williams drove for a dunk and a 94-91 lead with 1:29 remaining as Dallas players and coaches screamed for a double-dribble call.

The teams split a pair on each other’s home court. Game 5 is Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.

P.J. Washington led Dallas in scoring again with 21 points, while Doncic had 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Kyrie Irving had his second single-digit scoring game of the series with nine points.

García homered twice and drove in five runs as the Texas Rangers reached their first World Series in 12 years with an 11-4 blowout of the Houston Astros in Game 7 of the AL Championship Series on Monday night.

Corey Seager got the Rangers started with a long homer in a three-run first inning. Nathaniel Lowe also went deep to give Texas — one of six major league teams without a World Series title — its first berth in the Fall Classic since consecutive trips in 2010 and 2011.

García homered for the fourth straight game and set a record for RBIs in a postseason series with 15. He had four hits, scored three times and was the obvious choice for ALCS MVP in a series that saw the road team win every game.

Los Suns, cuyo sueño de coronarse se está convirtiendo en una obsesión, también cambiaron de pívot. Salió Deandre Ayton y llegó Jusuf Nurkic desde Portland, en el ámbito de una operación que dinamitó los equilibrios de la NBA.

Los Blazers recibieron a Ayton en una operación de tres franquicias que llevó a Damian Lillard a los Milwaukee Bucks. Un nuevo capítulo para ‘Dame’, que formará una dupla estelar en los Milwaukee Bucks junto al griego Giannis Antetokounmpo.

En el Oeste, los Suns se perfilan como principal amenaza para los Nuggets, además de franquicias siempre a tener en cuenta como los Warriors, campeones en 2022, que agregaron a Chris Paul y al español Usman Garuba a una plantilla guiada por Steph Curry, Klay Thompson y Draymond Green. Salió Jordan Poole con destino Washington.

Quieren salir del rendimiento mostrado en la segunda parte de la última campaña Los Ángeles Lakers, en la vigésima primera temporada en la NBA de LeBron James. El grupo está intacto, con Anthony Davis como gran socio de King James.

¿Un despegue de los Clippers o de los Mavericks de Doncic?

Más difícil de descifrar son las ambiciones de Los Ángeles Clippers, que con el permiso de las lesiones cuentan con una plantilla de alto nivel competitivo, liderada por Kawhi Leonard y Paul George. Eso sí, en los últimos años los Clippers han perdido a sus estrellas en los momentos clave de sus temporadas.

Nuevas amenazas llegan de Texas, donde Luka Doncic arranca el año con ganas de revancha tras vivir la peor temporada de su carrera en Dallas, al quedar fuera de la postemporada.

Jason Kidd tiene el reto de encontrar la manera para que expresar al máximo el potencial de la dupla Doncic-Kyrie Irving y, a la vez, encontrar intensidad defensiva, el enorme límite visto el curso pasado.

Será además el primer año del prodigio Wembanyama, primera elección absoluta de los San Antonio Spurs, que a sus 19 años provocó una expectación en la NBA que no se vivía desde hace 20 años, con LeBron como protagonista.

The Class of 2023 will be officially enshrined in the Hall of Fame on Saturday. The new summer date reflects an effort for enshrinement weekend to be more accessible to fans and guests — a change of date from recent celebrations that were held the week after Labor Day.

Enshrinement weekend will begin at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut on Friday, with the tip-off celebration and awards gala, inclusive of the Class of 2023 jacket and ring presentation and the annual Hall of Fame Awards. The enshrinement ceremony will take place the following day in Springfield’s historic Symphony Hall.

LeBron James se hizo acreedor a un obsequio exclusivo por parte de la NBA y Los Angeles Lakers, al alcanzar el récord.

Se trata de una cadena de oro sólido con diamantes, que fue creada y diseñada por Elliot Eliantte, el propietario de la marca Eliantte. Se desconoce el valor de la joya, pero sin duda tendrá un valor especial para la estrella de los Lakers por lo que representa.

Los detalles que no escapan a la vista son: el león en la parte frontal de la pieza, la leyenda de ‘Máximo anotador de la historia de la NBA’ y los números del King James, el 23 y el 6.

After ranking the best 30 players in the NBA right now,  we decided to rank the best six teams in the NBA currently. This will be a power rankings list that will be continuously updated throughout the season based on performance. With the first week of action underway, we used last year’s results in addition to this year’s projections to rank the best current teams in the league. While there were several teams we considered to the make the top six off the bat like the Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets, and Miami Heat, here are the six teams we felt stand atop the league right now.

6. Memphis Grizzlies

Now this final spot was essentially a toss-up and is subject to change as soon as the next couple weeks. There’s a strong argument for a few teams to take here including the Miami Heat, the Phoenix Suns or a healthy Denver Nuggets despite their defense looking awful in their season opener. For now, we’ll stick with the team that had the second best record in the Western Conference last season. Even without Jaren Jackson Jr., you have to believe the Grizzlies will continue to win games at a high rate. Taylor Jenkins’ squad was able to win plenty of games without Ja Morant last season so there’s no reason to believe they can’t win without JJJ in the lineup for a significant amount of time. We’ll see how guys like Brandon Clarke, Jon Kochar,  and Santi Aldama make up for Jackson’s production. If they find themselves at the top of the West again, Ja Morant would certainly have to be in the MVP race. 

5. Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers have proven to be one of the most consistent teams in the NBA over the last four seasons, consistently reaching the playoffs behind the dominance of Joel Embiid. This season, they could field a legitimate contender with James Harden returning to good health and being in shape, combined with the rapid ascension of Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris to form a formidable scoring quartet. The Sixers fate ultimately will be decided by how reliable their top two stars are when the calendar turns to April. Can Joel Embiid finally stay healthy for an entire postseason, and can Harden prove reliable the deeper this team goes into the playoffs? The

4. Milwaukee Bucks

When the Milwaukee Bucks are fully healthy, they have a strong case to be considered not only the best team in the East but the best team in the NBA. Led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, the No. 1 player on our rankings list, the 2021 NBA champions still have the majority of their NBA Finals rotation with the exception of PJ Tucker. Although Khris Middleton is expected to miss a significant amount of time, the Bucks are still going to be a difficult opponent for every team every single night. As long as No. 34 is on the floor, the team has a chance to beat anyone and couple that with the built-up camaraderie among the core unit, they should be fine without their Robin. We may not see the team at full strength until January as the Bucks will await the return of newly-signed forward Joe Ingles, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered with the Utah Jazz last season. Ingles could prove to be a sneaky pickup if he’s anywhere near the player he last was in Utah. 

3. Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers might be the deepest team in the association. With a plethora of wings including the returns of stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers not only bring depth but serious versatility. The elephant in the room is the question of will this team be able to stay healthy a full season or at least healthy enough to have everyone ready and available for the playoffs. Besides center, the Clippers are pretty much two-deep, sometimes three-deep, at every position. The NBA is wings’ league and Clippers have stacked up that position like no other team in the league. Ty Lue, regarded as one of the best coaches in the league, has been able to work with the talent that has been on the floor the past few seasons but we’re waiting to see his ability to lead a healthy Clippers. Los Angeles will always be a Laker town but this could be the year the Clippers breakthrough and put themselves on the grandest stage in June. 

2. Boston Celtics

The Celtics fell short of an NBA title last season, losing in six games to the Warriors, but things appeared bright for their future. Flanked by All-Star wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, as well as adding Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Galinari in the offseason, the Celtics looked poised to be even stronger during the 2022-2023 regular season. After Galinari tore his ACL in Eurobasket play, starting center Robert Williams underwent another knee procedure, and head coach Ime Udoka being suspended for the entire season, there is reason to question whether the Celtics could be the same dominant team they were on the back half of last season on their way to the Finals. But opening night silenced some of those worries with a big win over a talented 76ers team, a game in which Tatum and Brown both combined for 70 points. If those two continue to raise their game to new heights, and the supporting cast continues to defend at an elite level, the Celtics will remain amongst the truly elite teams in the NBA.

1. Golden State Warriors

Coming into a season with a bullseye on your back as the reigning champions is always going to provide external pressure. Add in an unprecedented team scuffle between two of your franchise pillars and there is an added layer of intrigue, but if opening night is any indicator, the Warriors should be just fine. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Jordan Poole are still in the fold, flanked by an amazing cast of support with Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody. The Warriors managed to win 53 games a year ago and the title with Curry, Thompson and Green each missing significant portions of the regular season. There is no reason to expect anything less again this season.

El interior siempre ha mostrado tener una gran autoestima y, en otro ejemplo de ello, durante la temporada aseguró que merecía estar en la lista de los 75 mejores jugadores de la NBA. Sin embargo, ahora es cuando menos puede presumir Howard, pues la pasada fue la peor temporada de toda su carrera, con sólo 6,2 puntos y 6 rebotes de media en 16 minutos.

La cifra casi es de récord, pues, hasta ahora, sólo el partido de despedida de Kobe Bryant en 2016 había tenido unos precios más elevados en toda la historia de la temporada regular. Entonces, los fans tuvieron que pagar una media de 1.137 dólares para disfrutar de la última actuación de ‘The Black Mamba’, que se despidió con unos impactantes 60 puntos ante los Jazz, a la altura de su leyenda. 

El precio para ver el Warriors-Lakers de la primera jornada, el próximo 19 de octubre, casi multiplica por 10 el precio medio por asistir a un partido de liga regular de la NBA, entorno a los 90 dólares. El valor de los tickets para el encuentro del Chase Center es más propio de un encuentro de play-offs que de liga regular. 

Varias circunstancias concurren para que este partido genere tanta expectación más allá del prestigio que de por sí tienen ambas franquicias y del siempre atractivo duelo entre Stephen Curry y LeBron James. Una de ellas, que tendrá lugar la ceremonia en la que el equipo de la Bahía reciba el anillo conquistado la temporada pasada.

Otro punto de interés es la curiosidad por ver a estos nuevos Lakers, que intentarán bajo la nueva dirección de Darvin Ham hacer funcionar el tridente LeBron-Davis-Westbrook tras el fracaso de la temporada pasada, debido en parte a las lesiones del pívot y el horrendo rendimiento de ‘Russ’. Además, los Warriors serán ya una prueba seria de entrada para empezar a testar las posibilidades de unos Lakers dolidos a la par que motivados para, cuanto menos, volver a mirar al título.

Pero no son sólo las mayores aspiraciones en la liga, las que han convencido al base de 32 años, renovado hasta 2027, para quedarse en su franquicia de toda la vida. Lillard se dispone a dejar más marcada su huella en la historia de los Blazers esta temporada, ya que tiene a tiro superar como máximo anotador histórico de la franquicia a Clyde Drexler, icono no sólo de los Blazers -11 años en la organización de Oregón-, sino de la NBA y de la selección estadounidense, campeón en 1995 con los Rockets, 10 veces All-Star, nombrado uno de los mejores 50 jugadores de la historia de la liga y miembro del Dream Team campeón olímpico en Barcelona ’92. Drexler fue compañero de Fernando Martín en los Blazers. 

Las cuentas son sencillas para Damian Lillard. El histórico escolta totalizó 18.040 puntos y el base acumula 17.510, con lo que sólo necesita anotar 530 tantos más. Lillard viene de cuajar su peor temporada de siempre en la NBA desde su año de ‘rookie’ a pesar de sus 24 puntos por partido -aunque sólo un 40% en tiros de campo-, y tras disputar sólo 29 partidos por una lesión abdominal que le dejó fuera desde enero. Sin embargo, le bastaría con repetir una campaña tan mala para superar a Drexler, ya que el año pasado registró un total de 695 puntos. 

Al contrario que ‘Clyde The Glide’, que tras una década en Portland se fue a los Rockets en busca del anillo, Lillard apunta a retirarse en los Blazers, pues jugará por lo menos en el equipo de Oregón tras extender su contrato por dos años más este verano hasta 2027.  Una muestra también de generosidad y afecto de la franquicia: cobrará un total de 260 millones en este lustro, a la altura de estrellas como Jokic. De hecho, el mismo Drexler habría sugerido al base que continuara en Porland según reveló el mismo Lillard.

“Clyde me quería ver ganar en Portland, me dijo lo que tenía que hacer para ser feliz. Pensé que odiaría estar tan cerca de él (en anotación) y perder la oportunidad de pasar a Drexler si me iba. Pensé en irme, pero nunca creí realmente que me iría de Portland. Terminó todo funcionando”, aseguró uno de los jugadores incluidos en la lista de los 75 mejores de la NBA en declaraciones a Yahoo Sports. 

Un Lillard feliz y motivado es la razón más poderosa entre todas las que hay para creer que estos Portland Trail Blazers pueden volver a play-offs tras interrumpir su racha de ocho presencias consecutivas la temporada pasada. Además de las incorporaciones de Payton y Grant, el equipo de Chauncey Billups mantiene a piezas clave como Drew Eubanks, Jusuf Nurkic y Anfernee Simons.

Los Houston Rockets han cerrado el fichaje de Derrick Favors en una operación con los Oklahoma City Thunder que ha afectado a ocho jugadores.

Adrian Wojnarowski adelantó en la cadena ESPN que Derrick Favors, Ty Jerome, Theo Maledon, Moe Harkless y una elección en segunda ronda del Draft de 2025 acaban en los Rockets a cambio de David Nwaba, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke y Marquese Chriss, que jugarán los Thunder.

Tras esta operación tanto Rockets como Thunder tiene 18 jugadores en sus respectivos ‘rosters’, por lo que cada uno de ellso deberá cortar a tres antes del 17 de octubre.

Stephen Silas, entrenador de los Rockets: “No sabía Usman Garuba era tan bueno”

El que no ha entrado en la operación de traspaso de los Rockets ha sido el español Usman Garuba, por el que parece que apuesta su entrenador Stephen Silas tras sus últimas palabras de halago.

“Estuvo muy bien en el Eurobasket. En los bloqueos y las continuaciones, las continuaciones cortas, y los pases. Sabíamos que era bueno en esas tres cosas, pero no sabía que era tan bueno como lo vimos en el EuroBasket”, reconoció Silas.

“Conocíamos la energía que tenía para jugar a baloncesto, también su capacidad para cambiar en defensa… era algo que conocíamos, claro. Pero en lo que se refiere a su juego en ataque, verdaderamente demostró una capacidad para las continuaciones cortas (short-roll) y para generar para otros que no sabíamos que fuese capaz de hacerlo”, dijo el entrenador de los Rockets sobre Usman Garuba.

La pasada temporada Usman Garuba jugó 24 partidos con los Houston Rockets con unos promedios de 2 puntos y 3,5 rebotes en 10 minutos de media.
